Material estimate only. Labor, excavation, gravel base, and site prep are not included. Always get quotes from at least 2–3 local contractors.
This calculator estimates asphalt material cost only. A full driveway paving project includes several other cost categories that vary widely by region and site conditions.
Asphalt tonnage × price per ton. Typically $70–$200/ton depending on location and mix type.
Hauling hot mix asphalt often adds a flat delivery fee of $100–$400 per load.
Paving labor, grader, roller, and equipment rental add $2–$5 per sq ft on average.
Old driveway removal, excavation, and gravel base installation can add $1,000–$5,000+ depending on scope.
| Type | Typical Size | Approx. Tons |
|---|---|---|
| 1-car driveway | 10×20 ft | 3–4 tons |
| 2-car driveway | 20×20 ft | 6–8 tons |
| Long single | 12×50 ft | 9–12 tons |
| Long double | 24×50 ft | 18–24 tons |
A typical residential asphalt driveway costs $3–$7 per square foot installed, including labor, materials, and basic site prep. A standard 600 sq ft two-car driveway typically runs $2,000–$5,000 depending on location, existing base condition, and contractor rates.
Material cost only. This calculator estimates the asphalt tonnage and material price. It does not include labor, equipment, excavation, old driveway removal, or gravel base — all of which add significant cost. Use it as a planning baseline before requesting contractor quotes.
Most residential driveways use 3–4 inches of compacted hot mix asphalt. Driveways in cold climates or areas with heavy SUV/truck traffic should use 4 inches minimum. The calculator defaults to 4 inches, which is the most common standard.
You can use it for a rough material estimate. However, commercial parking lots typically require 6–8 inches of asphalt to handle higher vehicle loads, plus engineered drainage and line striping. Consult a commercial paving contractor for a proper bid.
